RubyConf 2024

Hey nerds,

Welcome to all four of you that subscribed to my mailing list before I even promoted it. I’ve returned from RubyConf last week and thought I’d send out the inaugural Skill Issue.

RubyConf was great. There’s been a shift in the programming for the conference from recent iterations and it’s great. You should be excited for the talks. Lots of weird, fun, and technical talks.

In particular, look out for mame's talk. If you're curious, go to the schedule, find his talk, and run the Ruby code in the abstract. You won't be disappointed.

I also enjoyed Nadia Odunayo's talk. I won't spoil the twist, but if you want a preview of the technical part of her talk, check out this blog post I wrote. It talks about the same gotcha that she encountered.

Chicago is a great city and it was cool to be able to visit the office of Thrill Jockey, a record label we're working with right now.

This week's episode of Dead Code featured Aji Slater. We talked about how you can improve the way you work through gradual automation. I've been trying to put it into practice, and so far that's been very successful.

Finally, I'll leave y'all with with a song that I've had on heavy rotation this week, Lower Purpose by Fit for an Autopsy. Enjoy.

🤘🏻
