Grug Brained
I've been writing a lot more code than usual over the last little while, at least outside of the time I've spent camping and surfing. Unfortunately, I can't show it to you. Also unfortunately, I had a cold when I left to go camping and surfing and those activities turned it into a full blown case of bronchitis, which really sucks.
I just finished reading The Grug Brained Developer. I bought a physical copy, but you can read it online here. As a grug myself, I really enjoyed it, though I'm slightly more of a test shaman than Carson is.
The final RailsConf is next week. I won't be there, but I hope everyone has a great time. I'd love to visit Philly one day, but I'm avoiding US travel for the moment. 🇨🇦
Behind the scenes, I'm still working on my interactive Ruby tutorial site. I was hoping to have something to show for that in this post, but we're not there yet. I am looking for fun aspects of Ruby that you think should be covered in a Ruby tutorial. Send me your favourite Ruby features or quirks.1
Due to all that code I'm writing and just how busy I've been, Dead Code has dropped back to a biweekly2 schedule. This week's episode features Ivo Anjo talking about all the wonderful things he's been working on. Super smart human and I loved the message he finished with.
As a supplement to that episode, check out his talk from RubyConf last year. He goes into much more detail about some of the stuff we discussed.
I'll admit, I'm way behind on my listening queue. I keep track of new releases I want to listen to, but I'm currently still back in 2024. There's over 60 records in the list right now.
One standout, released last October, is Capilla Ardiente's Where Gods Live and Men Die. I love their bass-heavy take in epic doom.
